Welcome
stopping and starting
This is a space for educators—particularly teachers looking for new ideas you can immediately bring to your students. If you’ve ever attended a workshop with me you know that I like to give you activities that are practical and usable right away. Here we’ll keep those ideas coming and I hope you find them useful, no matter what age of students you teach.
I kept up with a blog before but stopped it in 2018, mainly to focus on writing our book Engage: Creative Practices for Teaching and Writing. But then the pandemic started and life changed so dramatically I didn’t feel like writing anymore and to be honest didn’t have the discipline or quiet space to focus on writing anything. Fast forward to after the pandemic, we revised Engage and published it. Finally my in-person work was picking up again—providing professional development, giving talks, and workshops for teachers, and finally feeling like I might have a little something to offer again. I just finished a whirlwind summer of doing some really wonderful work with colleagues. We piloted many new activities, introduced some exciting books to teach in classrooms, and even introduced some ideas that really provide some paradigm-shifting ideas in education. I’ll start by sharing some of these texts and new ideas and we’ll build out from there. Here you’ll get a new idea every week that might inspire you to build a curriculum, design a unit, or just bring a new activity to your classroom. Thanks for reading and reach out anytime with ideas and feedback. All the best . . . kw
